Introduction to Dance


Do you enjoy expressing yourself through performance and choreography? If so, this course could be for you. The BTEC Extended Diploma in Dance course, enables students to push themselves in order to reach their highest potential whilst learning and exploring this demanding, exciting and rewarding art form.
In addition to the BTEC qualification students can audition to be part of our professional dance company. The Dance Company @ RHS gives students professional experience of the life as a company dancer. The company regularly performs in local and international venues. Within our teaching we follow the British Ballet Organisation and the I.S.T.D ballet, tap and modern dance syllabus.

Many of our students go on to follow a course of professional training at a variety of dance universities such as: Arts Educational London Studio Centre, Urdang, Bird College, Italia Conti, Millennium Performing Arts, Performers College and LIPA. Our students have gone on to secure jobs in “Mamma Mia”, “Tommy”, “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”, Cruises, Disneyland Paris Resort as well as being accepted in some of the most prestigious theatrical agencies in the UK.

The Extended Diploma equivalent to 3 A-Levels.

Teaching & Assessment

60% Assignment and 40% Controlled Assessment.

1. Assignments: Set and marked by the centre and externally moderated. Students complete a series of practical, tasks set in a work-related scenario.

2. Controlled Assessment: Set and marked by the exam board.  Students respond to a pre-released brief or complete an online examination.

Vocational Progression

With this qualification you can progress onto a University to study Dance or other performing arts degrees. Jobs that you can do with this qualification include Actor, Dancer, Community Arts Worker, Dance Therapist, Director, Choreographer, Arts Administrator, Broadcast Presenter, Teacher or Lecturer or Theatre Stage or Production manager.
