Business Studies

The aim of the BTEC Extended Certificate is to develop skills required for employment and for University. By completing this qualification you are providing yourself with a unique platform that gives you the knowledge and skills to establish your own business or to become part of an already established business. Additionally, by developing your academic skills you are also being prepared for university life.
Course Aims
The course focuses on four main aspects of business – marketing, recruitment and selection, finance and establishing a business. This broad platform enables you to apply your new found skills and knowledge to any career you progress into.
Entry Requirements
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or equivalent which must also include a grade 4 in Maths and a grade 5 in English Language.
Progression
Students who have completed this qualification have gone onto university to study Marketing, International Business and International Business Management. Students have also found employment through apprenticeships with employers such as the NHS. A number of students have gone direct into employment with employers such as Amazon.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Business.
Exam
The weighting of assessment is 50% coursework and 50% external assessment (mix of exam and controlled assessment).

The assignments are set and marked by your teacher and then externally moderated. You will complete a series of practical tasks set in a work-related scenario.

The exam and controlled assessment is set and marked by the exam board. You will have to respond to a pre-released brief and complete a paper based exam.
