Fine Art

A-level Fine Art at Rainhill Sixth Form aims to teach you how to think, act and become a contemporary new generation Artist and practitioner. The course is extremely broad and enables you to experiment with a variety of techniques from multiple Art endorsements such as textiles, 3d design, ceramics etc. You will be challenged to understand all aspects that the Art model encompasses, which includes in depth focus around essential skills such as: Drawing, painting and sculpting all at small and large-scale, successful composition of own and artists work, content, form, process, mood and development of own ideas and refinement of own practice leading to sophisticated mature outcomes.

Course Aims
You will work across a wide range of media from simple sketching to highly detailed 2d or 3d practices. All work will be underpinned by in-depth critical studies which will help you write critically about your design ideas and concepts.

The course focus is centered on original the creative journey of personal investigation and concepts, coupled with high level outcomes that would be industry ready.

Students should have high expectations and will be continually pushed to help explore individual creative boundaries. We aim to offer an innovative, relevant and highly challenging course leading to further study or employment in a wide range of creative fields.

Success rate for students achieving a first choice degree place across the past seven years has been 100%.

Entry Requirements
Minimum GCSE grade 6 or equivalent in an Art subject such as Fine Art, Art textiles, Photography or Art Graphics
Progression
Following completion of the course students can continue into Degree studies at Universities, Foundation degree studies at University and Art colleges such as London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martins.

Past students are studying courses stretching from fashion to Architecture at leading universities following the success of their time studying Fine art.

Awarding Body
AQA A-level Fine Art. This is a level 3 qualification.
Exam
The course is a two year, 1 x A-level programme.

The weighting of assessment is 60% portfolio and 40% externally set assignment.

The portfolio assignments are set and marked by your teacher and then externally moderated. You will complete 4 projects which will form your portfolio.

The externally set assignment will be set by the exam board and marked by your teacher. Following this all examination outcomes are then externally moderated.

Within your year 13 studies it is a requirement of the course to produce an extended piece of critical and contextual writing around 2500 words long to support your personal studies.
