Apprenticeship routes Yes – Available through the NHS and also care homes for some roles.
Degree and postgraduate routes Yes – Essential for some careers e.g. Physiotherapy – Need high grades and academic subjects. Nursing – Need a degree. Nursing and midwifery are very competitive to get into – Make sure you do work experience and start reading about your career early.  Doctors – Need a degree – Extremely competitive. You  need a variety of work experience and need academic reading behind you too.

Work experience – Whiston Hospital, Liverpool Women’s hospital etc. Care homes, GPs surgeries.  Sports venues or private physiotherapy firms. Extra reading – Nursing times, BMJ and watch documentaries around science and the body on the BBC and Channel 4. TED talks on health. Read books on biology or nursing textbooks. Look on Amazon to see if ex-nursing students are selling them cheaply! Look for lectures at Universities where anyone can go – Anything biological or nursing related.
